Description
Paul Smith was born in 1879, and arrived in Whittier in 1882. His maternal grandfather, Rev. Augustus C. Hazzard, established the first two Methodist churches in Whittier. He has a clear memory of meeting Pío Pico when he was eight to ten years old. He discusses his memories of early Whittier, including Whittier State School (later Fred C. Nelles School for Boys).
