Title supplied by cataloger. Retired Army Capt. John S. Peters was stationed at Fort Sam Houston, Texas when General Pershing made a visit to the Fort in 1920. Peters was charged with getting a personal four star flag for General Pershing. Having no general flags in the ready, he ended up having a civilian woman create the general's flag from bunting the night before Pershing arrived at Fort Houston. Here, Peters displays that flag he had made for Pershing. Photograph caption dated September 14, 1959 reads, "Displays Pershing's Flag -- Capt. John S. Peters, retired Army officer of Encino, proudly holds up four-star flag he ordered made in 1920 for the late Gen. John J. Pershing, whose 99th birthday anniversary is being celebrated today. Behind Peters is old 46-star flag made after 1907 when Oklahoma entered the Union."
