Description
Taken in March 1934, this photograph shows the Shepard Lines' "Harpoon," moored along the Sacramento River. The ship was filled with a cargo of finished lumber, bound for Asia. Piloted by the "Delta Queen" steamer's Captain William Cooley, the 416-foot ship opened a new era of Sacramento River commerce as it was the largest ship - up to that time - to ply its way with cargo to the Port of Sacramento. Its delivery included two complete car loads of automobiles.
