Darryl F. Zanuck, head of Twentieth Century-Fox studios, and Sol Halprin, head of its camera department, accept an Oscar at the annual Academy Awards in Hollywood for "revitalizing" the motion picture industry and contributing to its advancement through CinemaScope, "which brought the public back to the movie theaters." Zanuck accepted on behalf of the studio, and Halprin on behalf of the studio and Professor Henri Cretien, French optical scientist, who invented CinemaScope.
