Title from printed catalog. Support: Parchment. Script: Humanistic; Square capitals. Layout: 1-12¹⁰(the last folio of the last quire now as pastedown). Catchwords written vertically between inner bounding lines through quire 8. 21 long lines, ruled in hard point, with double vertical bounding lines and top and bottom 2 lines full across; pricking visible on last quire. Other Decoration: On f. 1, gold initial, 4-line, with white vine-stem infilling and C-shaped border decorated at the corners with an owl, a butterfly and clusters of gold dots; on ff. 3 and 40, gold initials, 3- and 4- line, on a blue, yellow and red ground; on ff. 42, 94v, 100v and 114v, 2-line blue initials; 1-line initials in ink of text placed outside of ruled space. Rouse et al., Guide to Medieval and Renaissance Manuscripts in the Huntington Library (San Marino, 1989). Bound, s. XV, in Italian goatskin over wooden boards, stamped in the rectangular central panel and in its surrounding frame with a small circular tool with a dot in its center; traces of 2 fore edge clasps; 5 bosses remain of the original 10. Two unidentified early owners: in the lower margin of f. 1, an erased coat of arms within a crown of laurel leaves; in the right margin, a later coat of arms tied to a lion's head with a red ribbon: azure, a calf salient parted or and argent. Belonged, s. XVII, to "Bartolomeo" whose ex libris is on f. i: "Hunc ego nempe librum possideo Bartolomeus __one word erased___"; later owned by Giambattista Guaspari of Gallicano (in the province of Lucca?), whose ex libris are on f. i. (written over the previous one), "Battista Guaspari MDCCLXXV" and on the back pastedown, "Di Gio. Battista Guaspari di Gallicano 1775." On f. 117, below the text, in 2 hands, "L.6" and "non nominare il suo nome in vano." Owned by Henry William Poor (1844-1915), his ex libris on the front pastedown; his sale, Anderson, New York, 17 November 1908, pt. I, n. 803 to Friedman. Precise source and date of acquisition by Henry E. Huntington unknown.
