A Mayan woman cuts wood with an axe while children stand around her in the refugee camp of Cuauhtémoc, Chiapas. One of the girls carries a baby on her back. In the days following the Guatemalan attack at the nearby refugee camp of El Chupadero on April 30, 1984, one of the most violent assaults of this kind that left seven refugees dead, refugees from the camp of Cuauhtémoc fled their settlement to avoid the same fate.
