Title supplied by cataloger. Ralphs Grocery Company, founded in Los Angeles in 1873 by George A. Ralphs, is a major supermarket chain in the Southern California area, and the oldest such chain west of the Mississippi River. Ralphs, as it is simply known, became a grocery pioneer in the 20th Century, offering self-service markets with check-out stands in distributed locations. The location of the original store was at Sixth and Spring Streets, in Downtown Los Angeles.
