Hoffman, foreground, with a recording of the count-down blastoff, and President Kennedy's congratulatory message of the U.S.'s first space flight two weeks ago. Presenting the record are Gene Block, Columbia Records regional sales manager, and Los Angeles City Councilman Pat McGee."
