One of just three men to be inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame as a player and a coach, Sharman was a two-sport star at USC (playing outfield on the Trojan's first national championship baseball team). Drafted by the Brooklyn Dodgers, he decided to concentrate on basketball and, teamed in the back-court with Bob Cousy, won four titles with the Boston Celtics. Later, he coached teams in three different leagues to championships, including the Lakers' first title in L.A. in 1972, when they won a record 33 consecutive games.
