Bangla-Shoppen i Flensborg blev startet af den lokale Dansk Santalmission-afdeling i 1984 - af Hedi og Walter Lorenzen, som efter en rejse til Saraswatipur Kostskole var optaget af at støtte uddannelse af skolebørn i Bangladesh. The BanglaShop, Flensburg, was founded by the local Danish Santal Mission branch in 1984 – by Hedi and Walter Lorenzen. After a visit to Saraswatipur Boarding School, they had been aware of the need to support education of school children in Bangladesh. This has been channeled through sponsorships to poor children. (From right to left: Hedi Lorenzen, Walter Lorenzen, (NN). By now the initiative group is sharing the BanglaShop with the Y's Men's Club of Flensburg, which is supporting the work, as well. In 2014 they have celebrated the 30th anniversary of the BanglaShop.
