The man at the center of the group holds a rolled newspaper and points with his right hand. The 80's were considered the "lost decade" because of Mexico's debt crisis. This was due to the falling oil prices that left Mexico without foreign currency to pay off its $80 billion debt. This in effect, increased high levels of unemployement, especially in rural areas.
