Description
I call this piece, "I Am Mara." Mara is the cosmological Buddhist demon king who assailed Prince Siddhartha in an attempt to sway him from the path to Enlightenment. While there are many convoluted stories and meanings related to Mara, in the simplest terms s/he is associated with death and destruction. By June of this past year I was tapped out by so many of the year's dark emotions and issues that I decided to make this collage to capture them. I arranged the images to move from the hellish at the bottom to the despair and sadness seen at the top, but they are all expressions of Mara in the center.
