Photograph caption dated July 4, 1960 reads, "Wally Kent of North Hollywood, right, one of 64 selected Southland high school students attending Junior Engineers and Scientists summer institute, performs tricky experiment with spectrometer during class session under direction of Dr. George Betty, JESSI astronomer instructor. Other student is Robherd Edward Lange of Santa Barbara. Summer course at Redlands University is part of national program to discover students with special abilities in engineering and science."
