Image of a scene from the Battle of Resaca de la Palma during the Mexican-American War during which Mexico's General Rómulo Díaz de la Vega was captured in a cavalry charge led by United States Army Captain Charles May; Vega is pictured lighting a cannon and recoiling in surprise as May approaches on horseback with arm outstretched; soldiers are visible fighting on foot and on horseback, wounded, or dead in background.
