Description
Photograph caption dated July 4, 1956 reads "This array of beautiful trophies was presented to flight winners and runners-up at Griffith Park, following the finals of the 39th annual Los Angeles City men's golf championship on the Wilson Course. The links classic was co-sponsored by the Municipal Golf Association and the City Recreation and Park Department. Above, left to right, are golf director Robert Lutton, tournament chairman J. C. Cunningham, supervisor of golf Americ Hadley, new champion Jerry Steelsmith, Oakmont; runner-up Joe Gallardo, Griffith Park, who lost out to Steelsmith by a 4 and 3 margin; and superintendent of recreation William Frederickson Jr. Gallardo was the event's 1955 champion."
