Description
Image of fourteen vignettes of the Victorina Troupe (with a sheet for "See Kar-Mi" pasted over Victorina in the title) with top-center portraits of the three members in Middle Eastern, Hindu, or Gypsy-styled ethnic costumes: Joseph Hallworth known as Victorina and later Kar-Mi), Miss Victorina (presumably Kitty Fisher Hallworth), and a young girl, and additional images of the three performing swallowing acts including swallowing curved swords and scabbards, daggers, electric light bulbs, guns and bayonets, and a table leg, and drinking water through a tube.
Probable date approximated by cataloger; newspaper advertisements suggest Hallworth toured as Victorina around 1910, and began touring as Kar-Mi in 1912. "The Donaldson - Litho. Co. Newport, Ky."--text, bottom right margin. "Egyptian Hall Museum"--text, stamp on poster verso. "Shoots a gun barrel while it is down his throat. / Swallows an electric light."--text, continuation of title, middle and bottom centered. "Victorina in his astonishing feat of lifting a Springfield rifle and whirling it / about in mid-air by swallowing the bayonet."--text, caption of upper center image. "Most stupendous and incredible act devised by man! / Victorina loads a gun with powder and ball, swallows the gun barrel / two feel down his throat and then discharges it breaking with a / single bullet a one inch glass ball on the child's head."--text, caption of center image. "The most weird and startling exhibition before the public. / Miss Victorina swallows an electric light and it shines through the / flesh, making her body transparent / to the astounded beholders."--text, caption of lower center image. "The / $10.000.00 / novelty act."--text, bottom left of image. "The limit / of the / marvelous."--text, bottom right of image.
