Description
Photograph caption dated November 24, 1959 reads, "Stannard L. Gardner, designer of new kind of float bed, shows plans to Ken Wandel and William A. Naylon who are working on float for St. Elizabeth [sic] parish in Van Nuys. Church will enter float, 'The Annunciation,' in 12th annual Bethlehem Star Parade Dec. 5 in Van Nuys." Gardner's float design involved building sections and bolting them onto the chassis of an automobile from which the body had been removed. This eliminated the need for a separate tractor to pull the float.
