Description
Shown in 1925 is the Washington Grammar School soccer team, the 90-pound soccer champions for the city of Sacramento. The team defeated Newton Booth 2-0 in the title game, held at McKinley Park. It was their fourth city championship in a row and, during the 1924/25 season, they were never scored against. Standing behind the boys is Miss Emily Campbell, the team’s coach and manager while, to the far left, in the first row, is the team’s most valuable player, Clarence Geach. The championship game was filmed with the intent of circulating – nationwide – the winter sport options for Sacramento children. Washington school was located at Third and Elizabeth Streets in the Broderick section of Washington, later to be known as West Sacramento, California.
