Description
Photograph of a caged tiger at the Los Angeles Zoo, ca.1920. The big cat is lying down, with its front paws sticking out from under the iron bars of the cage. Its eyes are closed, perhaps in reaction to the flash, which is reflected at the right side of the picture. There is a gate in the middle of the cage with a lever mechanism to open it and a heavy padlock to keep it shut. The horizontal shadows of the gate create an crosshatched pattern across the vertical stripes of the tiger's coat.
