In: [Scenes of Sacramento] [manuscript] / Eugene Walter Hepting. [Sacramento, Calif. : E. Hepting, 1938?], Vol. C, leaf 41.
Street in foreground; in middleground is the entrance to a cemetery; a triangular free-standing pediment overhangs the road; on the left of it is a bell tower of 3 levels with a pointed arch window on the lowest level; on the right side is a small chapel building with a 3 lancet window facing the street; through the entrance see trees and grave. markers; a tree trunk borders the photo on the left edge.
Walter Hepting was born in Sacramento (father was from Switzerland, mother from Germany). Worked for the State Treasurer's Office. Was amateur historian, collected old photographs and images of Sacramento.
"City Cemetery, donated by Gen. J.A. Sutter to the city of Sacramento in 1850. 'A meeting was held on November 27th, 1849 to select a site for the city cemetary. A.M.Winn, pres. of city council' .Additional acerage was obtained at a later date.'Population' of the city cemetary is estimated to be over 90,000 in 1932."
