Description
Photograph the old tallyho with guests before the old Baldwin Hotel on Lucky Baldwin's Santa Anita Rancho, ca.1900. Four horses can be seen hitched to a carriage at left. The carriage is packed with almost a dozen men wearing suits. A brick building with a covered walkway and balcony can be seen behind the carriage. The hotel stood on the south side of the Santa Fe Railroad and near the present (1957) Santa Fe depot. Additional note written by Cornelius Smith: "I believe the man wearing the derby hat middle of the left row was Baldwin." Also, "see letter of 6/7/57 to Stuart O'Melveny in Tom O'Connell's file".
