Title supplied by cataloger. The Palm Springs Tennis Club (PSTC), built in 1937 by Pearl McManus, boasted as having the world's two finest tennis courts and a round swimming pool nestled against the rocks and flanked by v-shaped palm trees. Because of this, the pool became the most photographed and copied swimming pool in the west. The Clubhouse opened in February 1938 and was designed by famed Los Angeles architect Paul Williams, inspired by a monastery in Amalfi, Italy. Early tennis club members included numerous celebrities as well as some tennis greats. The tennis club became a timeshare property in 1980, and rentals are open to the public. Today, there is a 63-unit hotel, plus 63 private bungalows, 11 tennis courts, three swimming pools (including the original), five spas, a fitness center, and a stylish restaurant and patio dining. The Palm Springs Tennis Club, located at the extreme west of Baristo Road, is a Palm Springs Historical Site and is owned by Harold Matzner. Photograph shows the world-famous Palm Springs Tennis Club pool, as it appeared in the 1950s. A partial view of a building, possibly a restaurant, is visible on the upper right. The craggy mountain can be seen farther back.
