Description
"Kondeland. Negermädchen beim Kapokreinigen. Dr. med. O. Fischer" ("Konde country. Native girls cleaning kapok. Dr. O. Fischer"). In the background two Konde harvesting kapok from a large tree. In the foreground two large baskets with kapok and two girls seated on bricks: they twirl the kapok floss with short, thin bamboo canes.
The kapok (or 'silk cotton') tree is a huge tropical tree with deep ridges on its massive trunk. It bears large pods of seeds covered with silky floss
