Description
Bathers and umbrellas crowd Hermosa Beach both on the sand and in the water. Children play with inner tubes and a few surfboards are visible among the bathers. An uninterrupted row of beach houses is not far from the surf. Photo caption reads: " "The best beach along the coast..." That's what George Lukow, president of the Hermosa Beach Chamber of Commerce, said of this area. In a single season, it is estimated that more than 2,500,000 persons visit the beach. Lukow added: "It is the center of whole South Bay area and its population of 100,000 citizens" ". Photo dated: 1921. Photo reprinted in Herald: Apr. 30, 1955
