Photograph caption dated October 24, 1953 reads "First spadeful of earth is taken in North Hollywood for the fifth Bendix Aviation Corp. plant building in Valley. New construction at 11600 Sherman Way is for engineering building to house airborne radar and hydraulic departments. At ground breaking are, left to right, C. D. Deardoff, chief hydraulics engineer; W. S. Leitch, chief electronic engineer; Richard C. Fuller, general manager; Capt. J. L. Laidlaw, USN, and Col. Daniel A. Cooper, Air Force."
