1989-1141. In: [Scenes of Sacramento] [manuscript] / Eugene Walter Hepting. [Sacramento, Calif. : E. Hepting, 1938?], vol. A, leaf 14. Oblique view of the Cathedral; on its right side one of the 2 flanking towers can be seen; behind it looms the large dome surmounted by a lantern; jutting out from the dome is the transept with its own roof line; front facade is characterized by two small towers which flank the large, central 6 storey tower with a tall thin lantern on top; the apex of the transept roof as well as all the towers and the dome have crosses crowning each; trees on the street hide the entrance of the 1st floor; Cathedral has 2 storeys plus a basement level. Walter Hepting was born in Sacramento (father was from Switzerland, mother from Germany). Worked for the State Treasurer's Office. Was amateur historian, collected old photographs and images of Sacramento. "Work on the Catholic cathedral was begun about 1886 and completed in the year 1889. dedicated June 30, 1889. The central tower is 247 feet high, which is 7 feet more than the state capitol dome. The ceiling of the church auditorium is 61 feet high....On the right, 'Brown Brothers' (Franklin & Simeon Brown).' Wagon and carriage mfgs' Corner of 11th & Kay street in 1885..."
