This is a photograph of "the Catholic Mission at Sunchong [now Xingchang] for the Feast of the Assumption. Women, upstairs on verandale, men and boys and a few ladies downstairs. Seated, left Rev. John H. Murray, right Rev. Robert J. Cairns." Rev. Murray was born in Cambridge, MA. He entered Maryknoll in 1914 and was ordained in 1921. He was assigned to Kwangsi, South China, where he remained until 1927. Afterwards he worked in Hawaii. -- Fr. Cairns was born in Glasgow, Scotland and became a Maryknoll Missionary in 1918 at the age of thirty-four. He spent many years in China in Yeung Kong [now Yang-Chiang], Fachow [now Fahsien] and eventually Sancian Island. During WWII he was captured by the Japanese on Sancian Island and killed. His presumed date of death is December 14, 1941
