Description: “Heathen drums Malakula. Native sitting ready to beat the drum. The drums are principally used foe signalling, in fact native telegraphy.” Exterior view of a forest clearing with several totemic tree trunks. Large logs with faces carved on the outer surface and hollowed out centres give a deep resonance when hit on the outside with sticks.
