This collection includes approximately 40,000 photographs by commercial photographer Ralph Morris, who worked in the Los Angeles area from 1939-1981. His advertising and industrial clients included department stores, restaurants, the automobile and petroleum industries as well as business executives. Also included is the Luckhaus Studio collection of architecture, fashion, the movie industry, sports and street scenes, images which Morris obtained in 1939. Two boys solemnly pose on ponies in front of a billboard advertising "Free Pony Rides" above an arrow pointing to "Entrance to Track". The little boy in the striped t-shirt has stiped socks to match and his feet barely touch the top of the stirrups. The sign also advertises a "3-Min. Oil Drain" and offers "A coupon for every purchase" with the caveat that only one coupon may be redeemed at a time when busy. Cans of Pennzoil Motor Oil are stacked on the left. An air and water pump stands in front of the billboard. At the far right is a gumball machine. There's something for everyone.
