Photograph article dated September 30, 1961 partially reads, "'In 1951 we moved into a base on the edge of the Okefenokee Swamp in Georgia that hadn't been used since World War II. We started using the mess hall - and the rotten floor fell out.' Lt. Col. Richard H. Denison, executive officer of the 146th Air Transport Wing, ticked off the final hours before the official mobilization Sunday by recalling the period 10 years ago when the unit was previously activated... In comparing the mobilizations of 1951 and 1961, Denison said: 'I think it's been more hectic this time. 'Things are more intense now than during the Korean War, which had already been localized. Now there's more at stake and w ehave [sic] to be ready for brushfire wars in more places - Berlin, Laos, the Formosa straits, Africa.' He also noted that the Van Nuys Air National Guard Wing had been given 60 days notice in 1951 as compared to 30 days this time."
