Description
2018-3245. Newspaper article on verso identified Private Paul C. Smith, named "outstanding young man of 1942" by United States Junior Chamber of Commerce. Photograph from Marine Base, Parris Island, S.C. Born in 1908. Worked as prospector, lumberjack, investment banker managing the New York Anglo-California Bank. Went into newspaper industry as reporter, in 1937 became editor of the San Francisco Chronicle. Was chairman of Crowell Collier Publishing Co. Died in 1976. Removed from Paul C. Smith collection.
