Description
Photograph of a portrait of Henry Mellus, former mayor of Los Angeles, [s.d.]. The portrait appears to be in disrepair, much of its paint seemingly scratched or eroded off, and pictures Mellus in bust. Mr. Mellus' long face, which looks directly at the viewer, appears ghostlike against the rest of his starkly outlined body. A cravat, button-down shirt and vest are visible underneath the coat of the man's suit. His hair is full and parted to the side. The bridge of his nose is long and flat. He came to California in the ship with Richard Dana.
