Description
Title supplied by cataloger.
The Arlington Mountain Lodge, located in the mountain resort of Lake Arrowhead, opened its doors on June 23, 1923 to one thousand affluent guests. These special guests enjoyed music, toured the drawing rooms, the gracious bedchambers with private baths, and the beautiful terrace overlooking Lake Arrowhead. The impressive lobby, dubbed "The Great Hall", featured luxurious carpeting, a granite fireplace, a grand staircase, and a ceiling that vaulted forty-five feet. Exclusive period furniture, especially designed by Old-World craftsmen, completed the elegant setting. At that time, $15 would get one round trip transportation from Los Angeles, three meals at the Lodge, and a one-night stay. The half-million-dollar Arlington Lodge burned down in October of 1938, but was quickly rebuilt; many years later, the name was changed to Arrowhead Lodge. In 1982, the spectacular multi-purpose Lake Arrowhead Resort and conference center (previously Arrowhead Hilton Lodge), was built on the site of the original Arlington Mountain Lodge, and opened its doors in November of the same year. Lake Arrowhead is an unincorporated community and scenic mountain resort in San Bernardino County, adjacent to the Lake Arrowhead Reservoir; it has been a popular recreational area and one of the premier mountain resorts in Southern California for almost 100 years.
View of the lobby area of Arlington Mountain Lodge, located in the beautiful and scenic resort of Lake Arrowhead. The arched entrance appears to be "indented", and shows a multi-panel double door. Exposed ceiling beams can be seen throughout, as well as several doors along the left, and flower arrangements in the foreground. This photograph was taken during the opening week of the Arlington Lodge. Photograph dated: June 1923.
