Joan Barry was jailed in May 1943 for loitering and creating a disturbance at this residence. Judge Charles Griffin of Beverly Hills granted Barry a modification of her 30-day sentence, allowing her to be released to the custody of her attorney. Photograph caption dated June 4, 1943 reads, "Through this gate and behind these trees lies the Beverly Hills home of fabulous Charles S. Chaplin, where, Joan Berry [sic] charges, she was wooed and won with promises of starring roles in motion pictures." This residence is located at 1085 Summit Drive.
