Photograph was edited for publication purposes Pierre Salinger was born on June 14, 1925. He served as White House Press Secretary to Presidents John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson. Salinger served as a United States Senator in 1964 from August to December after the death of Clair Engle. He was defeated by Republican George Murphy for the Senate seat in November 1964. Salinger was manager for the Robert F. Kennedy presidential campaign and later became known for his work as an ABC News correspondent. He died on October 16, 2004. Photograph caption dated November 2, 1964 reads "U.S. Sen. Pierre Salinger tells crowd at Panorama Bowl in Panorama City that he will work hard for them if elected to a full six-year term in the Senate. He makes last visit to Valley tomorrow to spur election workers."
