Description
North Thai (Chiang Mai, Thailand) doll wearing a male outfit of the Green HMong people. The doll wears baggy black pants held together by a red belt sash that is tied and draped to hang in the front with its ornate embroidery displayed. A black cropped jacket with red trim (buttoned off to the side represented by silver beads), is worn under a variety of silver necklaces and locks. The doll wears a simple black cap decorated with a large red pom-pom on top, typically worn by men. The doll carries a woven basket in the right hand, and a small wooden pipe in the left. Typed labels affixed to the doll's stand read, (on front) 'Meo Lai,' (on back) 'North Thai Dolls.'
Typed label on doll stand 'Meo Lai,' which translates as 'Striped HMong.' However, there is no direct indication that this is a Striped HMong outfit which would be defined by having stripes on its sleeves. Instead, this appears to be a male outfit of the Green HMong people in Chiang Mai, Thailand.
