Shades of L.A. is an archive of photographs representing the contemporary and historic diversity of families in Los Angeles. Images were chosen from family albums and include daily life, social organizations, work, personal and holiday celebrations, and migration and immigration activities. L to R: (seated) Ricardo Machado y Buelna (groom’s cousin), Juan Alfredo Lugo y Machado (groom); (standing) Eloisa Mutaw y Chapman (bride’s sister), Adeline Mutaw y Chapman (bride). Juan and Ricardo were grandsons of Agustin Machado y Valenzuela (grantee of Rancho La Ballona). Adeline and Eloisa were granddaughters of José Juan de los Angeles Chapman y Ortega and Josefa Antonia Villa y Valdez.
