Photograph caption dated October 31, 1961 reads, "Los Angeles Recreation and Parks Commissioner Leonard Shane, a Sherman Oaks resident, has proposed a complete Valley recreation center for Sepulveda Basin similar to the new Venice amphitheater pictured above. The Venice facility, dedicated two weeks agop, cost city an estimated $1 million. Located on the beach at 1530 Ocean Front Walk, Venice, the center includes game, picnic and amphitheater areas."
