Photograph caption dated December 31, 1962 reads "A planeload of Christmas gifts is readied at Van Nuys Airport for an airlift to needy children in Salvador, Brazil, Los Angeles' sister city. The California Air National Guard cargo plane took off Sunday with 11,000 pounds of gifts donated by Los Angeles residents. The gifts, which included toys, clothing, medicine, canned foods and garden tools, will be ready for distribution for a Jan. 6 festival in Brazil which compares to Christmas here."
