Photograph of a drawing of the Los Angeles County Central Heating and Refrigeration Plant at the Civic Center which opened on Thursday, 21 August 1958. The first of its kind in the nation, this complex octopus-like system carries heat and refrigeration to various county buildings. It was engineered and designed by M.A. Nishkian & Company, Consulting Engineers, Long Beach. The $ 3,500,000 structure was constructed by Haas-Haynie-Frandsen, Inc., General Contractors, Beverly Hills. Mechanical installations were by Scott Company of Southern California. "How it'll look -- Sketch shows a planned Central Heating Plant that'll furnish hot and cold air to the Civic Center buildings.
