Description
The damask (donsu) fabric of this dashibukusa employs a stylized pine cone motif known as karamatsu (Chinese pine) over which an emblem of stylized wisteria leaves has been embroidered in gold thread. It was presented to Nakatani Sokiku in her third year of study at Urasenke. Dashibukusa are used to protect or respectfully display utensils in the same way as kobukusa, though they are much larger. The karamatsu pattern was particularly favored by the 14th generation Urasenke tea master Tantansai (1893-1964).
