Waist-length portrait. Print signed by artist and by W.A. Scott.
1990-1731.
Born in Tennessee in 1813. Became Presbyterian minister and missionary. Traveled frontier, preaching to Native Americans, served as volunteer chaplain in Black Hawk War. Settled in San Francisco in 1852, returned in 1870 when established St. John's Presbyterian Church. Influential in establishment of University College, San Francisco. Died in 1885.
