Description
201 E Greystone at Ivy. Built 1894 "Mrs. M.L. Butts,who came to Monrovia about two years ago from Dover Plains, N.Y., has an artistic home and two acres of land at the corner of Greystone and Ivy avenues. The house is of stone and shingle construction, and although greatly modified to suit its location, was suggested to its architect, Mr. Benton of Los Angeles, by the seaside cottage of the poet Stedman, on the Atlantic coast. The stone is the native granite from Monrovia canyon, and beautifully varied from the dark blue, almost black, to the very light, a close resemblance to marble. The building is somewhat after the Normandy cottage style, and is much admired by people of culture. Its owner has exhibited the best of taste in its interior decoration and furnishing, and altogether it is a most delightful California home." Monrovia Messenger Souvenir Edition 1897.
