Description
Photograph of conveyer belts used at a rock plant, ca.1950. In the foreground at center, a large conveyer belt can be seen extending into the extreme background. To the left and right of the narrow conveyer belt, numerous pairs of small wheels are visible. Further to the left and right, a small wooden walkway is visible on either side of the small wheel, and rails can be seen framing the walkways. Atop the belt, piles of gravel is visible. Near the center of the conveyer belt, a small box can be seen sitting on the walkway on the left, and a worker wearing a brimmed hat is visible further in the background standing on the walkway on the right. To the far left of the conveying system, three other similar systems can be seen. One of the conveyer belts carrying a load of gravel can be seen sloping to the base of a large building below. To the immediate right of this belt, another conveyer belt is also visible. To the far left, the third conveyer belt steeps down sharply only showing the side structure composed of several metallic bars and crossbeams. In the foreground to the left, a wooden platform can be seen surrounding the groups of conveyer belts. To the far right, trays of gravel are visible. In the background at center, a large rectangular building with two visible windows can be seen. Several of the conveyer belts connect to the base of the building, while the central conveyer belt moves to the roof. To the far right of the building, a large truck can be seen in a desolate dirt field. In the extreme background to the left and right, small homes and other structures can be seen along lines of trees. Photoprint reads: "This is a typical conveying system used in modern rock plants".
