Photograph of a dozen or so Hopi men performing the Hopi Snake Dance Ceremony at the pueblo of Oraibi, Arizona, 1898. They can be seen dancing in a vague line wearing highly decorated skirts, moccasins, feathers, necklaces, bracelets. Their chests, arms, and faces are painted white. The priest in the foreground holds a snake in his mouth. A small group of spectators watches from near multi-tiered dwellings of the pueblo in the background.
