Shades of L.A. is an archive of photographs representing the contemporary and historic diversity of families in Los Angeles. Images were chosen from family albums and include daily life, social organizations, work, personal and holiday celebrations, and migration and immigration activities. Title supplied by cataloger.; Image is a reproduction. Ken Karagozian’s ancestors were Armenians who first came to Southern California in 1925. They settled in West Los Angeles in 1935. Ken was born in 1954 and grew up in Woodland Hills, CA. He was affiliated with the Armenian Congregational Church. He spent 30 years documenting the creation of the Los Angeles Metro system through 10,000 black and white photographs. His photography was exhibited in Life Magazine, the L.A. Times, and Pasadena Magazine. Mr. and Mrs. John Karagozian stand in the doorway of Immanuel Armenian Congregational Church, located at 1401 W. Washington Boulevard. The verse above the door is John 14:6 "I am the way, the truth and the light". The church moved to Downey in 1979.
