Photograph was edited for publication purposes Lesley Gore, born Lesley Sue Goldstein, was born on May 2, 1946 in Brooklyn, New York. She was a singer, songwriter, actress, and activist, recording hit songs about heartbreak and resilience. One of her most famous songs was the pop hit "It's My Party," recorded when she was 16, in 1963. She was active almost until her death on Feb. 16, 2015. Photograph caption dated August 27, 1964 reads "Recording artist Lesley Gore arrived from New York to entertain teenagers at the opening of the new Broadway Topanga Plaza." The article partially reads "A gourmet back-to-school fashion show highlighted the teen extravaganza at the Fountain of Youth Benefit christening of the new Broadway Topanga Plaza."
