Description
Shows Joseph D. Finnerty (1922-2012), on horseback as a member of the Army Calvary in 1942, patrolling the California coast for enemy submarine activity.
Finnerty was in the 107th Cavalry of the Ohio National Guard, which was still riding horses when World War II broke out; his unit was sent to Petaluma, where their mission was to go out and patrol the coast for enemy threats.
