Description
Plates in: Mare Island photograph album, pg. [5]. 1991-1147. Named after the first Superintendent of the U.S. Coast Survey Ferdinand R. Hassler, was built in 1871 under the direction of engineer John Dialogue at the River Iron Works in Camden, New Jersey; decommissioned in 1895; first Coast Survey ship constructed from iron.
