Description
An unidentified man with a curly mid-length beard holds a pen in his right hand as he sits in front of papers. The man works at a shelter that helps poor children from the streets of Mexico City. The 80's were considered the "lost decade" because of Mexico's debt crisis. This was due to the falling oil prices that left Mexico without foreign currency to pay off its $80 billion debt. This in effect, increased high levels of unemployement. In 1981, 52.5 percent of households in Mexico were considered poor.
